Into the Blue

Here's a fellow after my own heart. He's all packed and ready to take off on the next available adventure. So...off we go into the wild blue yonder!

Little Girl

Here is a drawing of a little girl with a brush pen. One of the most gratifying and frustrating tools in the art arsenal, the Sakura long tipped brush pen can yield some very happy accidents.

Here is a doodle of a guy playing a very short version of a Digerie-Doo. In actuality, I just ran out of space on the paper...but I still like the drawing.

Something from work

All hail football season! I think that this guy cannot wait to play a pick up game in the park with the rest of the nuts.

Just a little something from what I am working on at work!

It's been a Long time

I have been extremely bad about posting to the blog. A glance up a the date marker shows that it has been more than two months since my last post! Poor Jeremy has gotten soooo bored of looking at the Bounty Hunter Rabbit that I feel compelled to put something...anything up to relieve the eye strain. So I will post every night for the next seven days.

For now, here is my submission for Drawer Geeks this week. As an added bonus, I also give you the two little sparks which helped me to draw this evening.

Rabbit Bounty

This week's bid for DrawerGeeks. The topic was rabbits. I wonder what an angry bloodthirsty skull hunter with formerly floppy ears would look like. Here's what I think.

Aliens Revisited

While working on my whimsical submission for the DrawerGeeks topic of aliens a few weeks ago, I toyed with the idea of working up a second concept in more of a graphic novel/sketchbook style. I never got past the preliminary sketch stage, but I like the direction it was going in so I thought I might post it here.

I find that I really prefer to ideate and sketch using a pen; not always, but depending on the subject matter. I like the immediacy that drawing in ink forces you to contend with. I get a lot of happy mistakes that would otherwise not ever get recorded were it not for the permanency of the ink stroke. I sometimes revisit a drawing done with pen and view it as though it were done by someone else; that is how differently my mark making becomes when I draw with pen.

There is nothing like a gigantic alien staring down at a hapless human to bring into sharp relief the question of man's dominance of the universe.

Do it Again, Daddy!!

This is my submission for Drawer Geeks this week. I'm still working on refining it. I hope I'll have the time.

I will dedicate this to my good friend, Jeremy, who is undoubtedly awake staring at the clock as he waits to take his lovely wife to the hospital for the birth of his little girl! Maybe one day Jeremy and Baby Vanhoozer will sit and watch the stars on a not so distant asteroid.

Quick drawing in Painter

In an effort to teach myself the basics of drawing in painter, I have been trying out the blender tool. Although still a huge fan of analog drawing methods, I do like certain aspects of working completely digital.

Book Illustration

I am working on this illustration for a children's book. As you can see, it is still a work in progress. I am still figuring out the style and color...trying to get a traditional "safe" look. I feel as though, however, in achieving this feel I am not pushing the style in any new direction for either myself or the intended audience. It just looks like anything else you might see. Rather plain so far. Still, my client seems to want something along these lines. If I can pull this along, perhaps I can make a second version that is a bit more...daring. See you all real soon!

Moogie

Hello all. I wanted to show some more of the "Moogie" creature from the previous post. It's a fun little character so I hope that you enjoy it.
